Exposing 3 lies of the enemy

Lie number 1: Darkness is stronger than light.

This is a lie! Have you ever lit a match in dark room or realised what happens to darkness when you flip on a light switch? It disappears... Dark is NOT stronger than light. Darkness cannot do anything against light to stop it from shining. Darkness is only the absence of light. The only thing that darkness can do it intimidate you and cause fear so that the light fades and you stop shining. Read John 1:1-5. Verse 5 says: "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." Jesus said in John 8:12b: "I am the light of the world; anyone who follows me will not be walking in the dark; he/she will have the light of life". Also in Psalm 27:1 "The LORD is my Light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" Darkness is nothing. Let the light shine!

Lie number 2: Weakness is a bad thing that you should be ashamed of and hide from other people.

This is a lie. Anything that is kept hidden, kept a secret and thereof kept in the dark is the devil's playground and will be used to hurt and kill you, steal from you and destroy you. (John 10:10). You should instead bring things to the Light where God's healing and restoration can flow over and into it. That is the only way you can be made whole. Paul says that it is in our weakness that we are made strong because it makes us realise that we can't do it ourselves or handle it in our own strength it points you to Jesus as your Saviour and Deliverer (2 Cor 12:9-10). Weakness is not a bad thing. It is not wrong to say and admit that you are struggling and that you are not OK. At that point of weakness is where you can throw yourself into the arms of an all loving, all powerful God who cares about you. "When you get to the end of yourself, you come to the beginning of God" - Mike Pilavachi (Soul Survivor). Don't run and hide from God, run to God! The Name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous RUN into it and they are saved (Prov 18:10) Also don't pull away from your spiritual family when you need their support the most. That is why God planted us in a church family or a spiritual support group. Share your burden with them so that they can help you carry it and support you first in prayer and then in any other way you might need it. Don't allow the enemy to hurt you even further by your withdrawal from others or you isolating yourself. That’s a very vulnerable and dangerous position to be in even though the devil might be lying to you even more to make you believe you are protecting yourself by doing this. That is another lie. God made us to support each other. Don't listen to lies!

Lie number 3: This situation is hopeless and impossible. Nothing can be done.

This is a lie! Nothing is impossible for God (Mat 19:26). The problem is that we insist on holding onto our own problems and we are not willing to give them to Jesus and leave it at His feet. We must learn to trust that God knows better and has our best interest at heart. Rom 8:28 "And we know that in ALL things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to God's purpose." That's you! God will work things for your good, but you have to first give it to God. You have to let go of the control and trust, believe! And then...beware of offense and disappointment. You cannot say you trust God to handle a situation but then you get upset when it doesn't happen the way you wanted or in the time frame that you wanted it done. When you say you trust you have to give up the control completely, knowing that God knows what He is doing! Don't become offended or disappointed, that is a trap that leads you to anger, resentment and bitterness. Don't allow it. Trust God always. In Isaiah 55:8-9 God states that His thoughts and ways are so much higher than ours. We don't have to understand or give our inputs, we have to trust and believe!

1 Peter 5:6-9a "Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that God may lift you up in due time. Cast ALL your anxiety on God because He cares for you! Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith...”

Practical steps:

Ask God daily to open your spiritual ears and eyes and make you aware of lies being spoken to you. Ask for wisdom, daily. (James1:5) Ask God to sharpen your discernment to know when it is a trap. Identify it, catch it and discard it immediately. Lies are not worth your attention. You will know the TRUTH and the TRUTH will set you free! (John 8:32). Jesus is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6a).
